Power Systems Analysis and Design

Example

Projects

P&E works with a wide variety of commercial, industrial, and utility companies on a daily basis to complete thousands of megawatts worth of designs each year.
This is a small sample of the projects we have worked on over the last decade.

Wind Farm (Iowa)

One of the largest wind farms in the midwest rated at 416 MW.  This site has a total of 224 turbine using 3 different General Electric and Clipper turbine technologies.  P&E designed the collection system and provided protective device and data acquisition equipment settings for this project.

Municipal Utility Overhead-Underground Conversion (Iowa)

P&E works with municipal utilities to develop long-range plans and designs to convert their overhead distribution systems to a more reliable underground system.  These projects typically include planning, preparation of cost estimates for budgeting purposes, support for the bidding processes for materials and construction labor, as well as detailed design of the distribution systems.

Wind Farm (Nevada)

P&E provides complete designs for the power systems that connect wind farm turbines to the interconnecting utility.  This project included design of collection, substation, and underground 230 kV transmission systems for a 152 MW wind facility.

Wind Farm (Texas)

When the final stages were completed in 2007, this was the largest wind farm in the world.  This site is rated at 735.5 MW using more than 400 Siemens and General Electric turbines. P&E designed the collection system and provided protective device and data acquisition equipment settings for this project.

State Fairgrounds (Iowa)

With over a million visitors each year during the Iowa State Fair, the grounds themselves are essentially a small city. The grounds house a multitude of facilities that require a large amount of reliable power and backup capabilities.  P&E has been a partner with the organization for years helping with all aspects of electrical design and operations.

Re-Power Project (California)

Wind farms built in the early 1970s are some of the oldest wind farms in the United States and cover thousands of acres. The older style of turbines operate at very high RPM, which have resulted in many bird deaths over the life of these projects. P&E has helped design the replacement sites, installing one new low RPM turbine for approximately every 24 old turbines taken down.  These projects have resulted in dramatic reductions in bird deaths.
